2016 Met Gala

The Met Gala 2016 theme summed up to be, Manus x Machina. Some went with the theme and some chose to just show off their semi-glam and skin tight gowns (pant suits as well). Choosing the best dressed was very complicated because there weren’t many “best dressed” celebrities. When Met Gala pops into my head I think of magnificent, detail-oriented, elaborate, jaw-dropping gowns. That vision wasn’t particularly fulfilled but some did meet a pretty high standard.

In my opinion, fashion designer  Zac Posen created the best dress that hit the red carpet. The one-of-a-kind, hand-sewn creation was crafted from organza and fiber optics, which allowed the dress to light up in the dark. The high-tech garment featured a voluminous skirt (Vanity Fair: Met Gala 2016). When Zac Posen designed this futuristic gown for the Gala he didn’t assemble the dress until a week before the event.

Posen set out to create a gown that highlighted “the place where technology and fantasy meet.” Made of custom fiber optic woven organza with 30 mini battery packs sewn into a thin organza lining, the result was an haute couture design that reflects his experimental approach to fashion. “We custom developed the fabrication because I wanted to create something that had a transparency to it, but an illumination to it.” – Zac Posen (EW: Met Gala 2016)
